Former President Obama has been active in the media lately as he attempts to garner votes for Joe Biden. This certainly does not give the impression of a leader, as Biden is relying on the likeability of his former president since he continues to fall short. Both men are using fear tactics to sway confused voters. The latest threat is that the next president will have the ability to appoint two new Supreme Court justices and that it will change the landscape of the United States entirely.
“The next president is likely to have two new Supreme Court nominees. Two more. He’s already appointed two that have been very negative in terms of rights of individuals,” Biden commented. Trump named three justices during his term – Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanagh and Amy Coney Barrett – cementing the conservative majority on the bench.”
Every president since Jimmy Carter has nominated a Supreme Court justice. One should vote as if the next president WILL appoint a SCOTUS as they seem to come in waves. The Supreme Court of the United States was created over 233 years ago in 1789 and there have been 116 serving Justices. Justices are appointed for life, with the average Justice serving for around 16 years. Cyclically, a new judge enters the SCOTUS every two to three years.
George W. Bush had the opportunity to appoint two Justices (Alito and Roberts), Obama appointed two (Kagan and Sotomayor), Trump three (Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett), while Biden has appointed one (Jackson).
So yes, the Supreme Court could potentially become one that is predominately elected by Trump if he secures the election. Yet, six of the nine Justices were already appointed by Republicans. The oldest Justice, Clarence Thomas, 74, was appointed by George H.W. Bush, while the second oldest, Samuel Alito, 72, was appointed by his son, George W. Bush. Sotomayor, 68, is the oldest Democrat-elect as she was appointed by Obama. If the Republicans secure a victory, they would likely be replacing conservative Justices with other conservative Justices. There would not be some major shift in the Supreme Court as they want the people to fear.
Additionally, the latest appointment, Jackson, 51, seems to be the most radical appoint to date. She refused to acknowledge the existence of women who compose 50% of the population and she is the second-youngest service member of the SCOTUS with no plans to retire in the near future. Even Sotomayor, Obama’s appointee, does not appear to be far-left. Appointing new members to the highest court if one of the most influential aspects of presidency. I would foresee more major shifts in policies if the Supreme Court were filled with Justices appointed under Biden as his selections lean heavily to the extreme left where reason and logic does not exist.
