QUESTION: Marty, there is a email going around claiming among many things that members of Congress, their staffers and their family members do not have to pay back their student loans?

ANSWER: Sorry, that is by no means true. The confusion seems to come from the fact that anyone who works for government is exempt to some extent, which is VERY wrong, and denies the right to Equal Protection of the Law. Federal employees are eligible to receive up to $60,000 in student loans repayments after several years by the government tax-free. However, this does not apply to members of Congress or their families. Staffers, yes. But not members of Congress.
