Wiglaf succeeded to the throne of Mercia following the defeat and death of LUDICA. Wiglaf managed to reign from 827 until 840. Initially, Wiglaf was expelled from his throne by the powerful ECGBERHT of Wessex in 827. However, Wiglaf eventually regained his throne within a year. Wiglaf died in 840 AD and was buried at Repton Monastery in Derbyshire. He was succeeded by BERHTWULF.
